Ongame Introduces Essence
The Ongame Network is introducing a new program that’s designed to let online poker sites help newer or less experienced players hold their own against the big dogs.
The Essence program gives more credit for rake to players who lose somewhat regularly rather than players who consistently win.
“Style of play gives a truer reflection of an online poker player’s worth,” said Martin Lerby, head of Ongame. “Our Essence powered business model leads the industry by using this new valuation to embrace all players for the benefit of all network stakeholders.”
Betfair and Betsson have both signed agreements with Ongame allowing them to use the Essence program.
“Being able to welcome all kinds of players to all kinds of games is what Betsson is all about,” Betsson CEO Pontus Lindwall said. “Ongame Network enables us to do this.”
Lerby noted that the new system might allow those networks who participate to draw more players, especially those who are new to the game and intimidated about their lack of experience.
The Essence program sets up special rules that grant bonus points and lower costs to those poker players who play only casually or who are new to the game. Lerby said it allows the networks to focus on getting more players to the table along with setting up the high-stakes professional games.
