UB and Absolute poker security

Players who enjoy the tables UB.com and Absolute Poker.net (www.absolutepoker.net) will be glad to know that internet security was recently increased at both poker sites.

Paul Leggett, the chief operating officer of Tokwiro Enterprises, which owns the network on which both sites operate, said in a statement this week, “Our priority is our players, and providing them with a secure online poker environment. The implementation of the open SSL standard achieves this for our players, and we will continue to conduct rigorous verification tests and submit to third party audits to ensure our entire operation is secure.”

On May 6, a security flaw was discovered by PokerTableRatings.com, which scrapes hand histories at the biggest poker sites and lets players search results to follow the histories of various players. The site noted a flaw in both UB and Absolute Poker’s security that could allow for personal information to be intercepted.

Many players were angry that the site owners and operators (the sites operate on the CEREUS Poker Network) didn’t respond sooner to the security problems and issued complaints. Site user ezdonkey wrote on a forum site, “I can’t help but wonder why people still play there.”

Some users wondered why the site wasn’t shut down immediately once the security hole was detected, but according to site operators, there was a strong belief that the problem could be dealt with quickly, removing the risk of compromising personal information.
