Oldest Player in the field is winner of WSOP Event

The winner of the World Series of Poker Seniors Championship was the oldest player in the field.

Seventy-eight-year-old Harold Angle this week took home the first place prize of more than $450,000 as well as bragging rights.

“It was a great tournament,” Angle said after he took the big prize. “I did not run into any rude people the entire time. Everyone congratulated each other. It was the best. I had the best time ever.”

The WSOP Seniors Championship is open only to players who were born before June 18, 1960 and offered a total prize pool of nearly $3 million. More than 3,100 players participated in the event.

Angle is a retired salesperson who lives in Sun City, Fl. He says he began playing poker in a pool hall in Ohio. His daughter, a Jacksonville Jaguars cheerleader, inspired his choice of dress (a Jaguars hat) and his daughters and wife of 60 years cheered him on during play.

Unlike most poker players today, Angle has never played a hand of poker online. In fact, he says, “I don’t even know how to turn a computer on.” He said he prefers playing poker with real people at real tables and often plays at the Hard Rock Casino in Florida.

Many poker players who play in wsop events win their seats playing at online poker sites. PartyPoker.com is a popular spot for players to win their seat with hundreds given away each year. They are the largest poker site for players in Europe (no us players are accepted) and offer  first time players a Party Poker deposit bonus giving players up to $500 dollars in additional bonus cash!
