Oldest Player in the field is winner of WSOP Event

Posted on June 23rd, 2010 by kdollar

The winner of the World Series of Poker Seniors Championship was the oldest player in the field.

Seventy-eight-year-old Harold Angle this week took home the first place prize of more than $450,000 as well as bragging rights.

“It was a great tournament,” Angle said after he took the big prize. “I did not run into any rude people the entire time. Everyone congratulated each other. It was the best. I had the best time ever.”

The WSOP Seniors Championship is open only to players who were born before June 18, 1960 and offered a total prize pool of nearly $3 million. More than 3,100 players participated in the event.

Angle is a retired salesperson who lives in Sun City, Fl. He says he began playing poker in a pool hall in Ohio. His daughter, a Jacksonville Jaguars cheerleader, inspired his choice of dress (a Jaguars hat) and his daughters and wife of 60 years cheered him on during play.

Unlike most poker players today, Angle has never played a hand of poker online. In fact, he says, “I don’t even know how to turn a computer on.” He said he prefers playing poker with real people at real tables and often plays at the Hard Rock Casino in Florida.

Many poker players who play in wsop events win their seats playing at online poker sites. PartyPoker.com is a popular spot for players to win their seat with hundreds given away each year. They are the largest poker site for players in Europe (no us players are accepted) and offer  first time players a Party Poker deposit bonus giving players up to $500 dollars in additional bonus cash!

Online Poker on Google TV

Posted on May 22nd, 2010 by kdollar

Right now, gamblers who can’t or don’t want to head to a casino often play online from the privacy of their homes and with the convenience of their computer. Google announced plans this week that could make it even more comfortable and convenient.

Google is planning to offer the innovative television service which can allow viewers to use an on-screen search box to search for favorite TV shoes or other information that’s available on the web.

The idea behind the new innovation is that watching television could be easier, but many believe that a side benefit would be that people would be able to surf the internet and gamble online, all from the comfort of their sofas and with the view of their huge televisions to make the experience more exciting.

Sony is partnering with Google for this project; the company has announced that Sony TVs able to work with the Google TV feature will be available to consumers in the fall.

Some countries already have experience with gambling while watching TV. In the UK, gamblers can subscribe to NetPlay, which offers interactive gambling shows. Some casinos & poker sites in the U.S. and elsewhere allow players to gamble while watching TV in their casino hotel rooms.

The Google innovation, however, would allow people to gamble in their own homes, a truly unique concept.

UB and Absolute poker security

Posted on May 21st, 2010 by kdollar

Players who enjoy the tables UB.com and Absolute Poker.net (www.absolutepoker.net) will be glad to know that internet security was recently increased at both poker sites.

Paul Leggett, the chief operating officer of Tokwiro Enterprises, which owns the network on which both sites operate, said in a statement this week, “Our priority is our players, and providing them with a secure online poker environment. The implementation of the open SSL standard achieves this for our players, and we will continue to conduct rigorous verification tests and submit to third party audits to ensure our entire operation is secure.”

On May 6, a security flaw was discovered by PokerTableRatings.com, which scrapes hand histories at the biggest poker sites and lets players search results to follow the histories of various players. The site noted a flaw in both UB and Absolute Poker’s security that could allow for personal information to be intercepted.

Many players were angry that the site owners and operators (the sites operate on the CEREUS Poker Network) didn’t respond sooner to the security problems and issued complaints. Site user ezdonkey wrote on a forum site, “I can’t help but wonder why people still play there.”

Some users wondered why the site wasn’t shut down immediately once the security hole was detected, but according to site operators, there was a strong belief that the problem could be dealt with quickly, removing the risk of compromising personal information.

FullTiltPoker Big Money Sundays

Posted on May 20th, 2010 by kdollar

If you enjoy winding down on Sunday with a hand of poker played online, Full Tilt Poker (www.fulltiltpoker.net) has a promotion you might like.

The site calls the weekly event “Big Monday Sundays” and big money it is. Full Tilt guarantees that there will be more than $1 million up for grabs in the various events held on Sundays, with one prize pool exceeding $750,000.

Here’s how Sundays work: There are three major tournaments that day. You can choose to play in one or all of them. Simply enter the room through the lobby, pay your buy-in fee and get to work playing a competitive hand of poker. You can also play in one of these games by winning satellite tournaments at another time of the week or by using Full Tilt Poker points to buy your way in.

The first Sunday poker tournament each week is The Sunday Brawl, which begins at 2 p.m. ET and offers $350,000 in guaranteed prize money.

Stick around for the second tournament of the day if you want to play in the $750K Guarantee tournament. That tournament begins each Sunday at 6 p.m.

Finally, end the day with The Sunday Mulligan, an event that, according to Full Tilt, lets you “tee it up one last time” for a share of the $200,000 guaranteed prize.

All the details can be found at any of full tilt's online poker sites.

ToeTagU Wins SCOOP Main Event

Posted on May 19th, 2010 by kdollar

The Spring Championship of Online Poker awarded its big winner Monday. Ryan “toetagU” Fair won the big prize, which was more than $1 million.

More than 170,000 players participated in the SCOOP  www.PokerStars.net events, which ended with three versions of the main events; the main events were held over a total of two days. It was also unique because players can buy in at the low. medium or high end, which allowed them to play in a variety of tournaments and games.

Cake Poker Door Crasher tournaments

Posted on May 10th, 2010 by kdollar

Poker players who like to do things at the last minute will enjoy the upcoming promotion at Cake Poker. From May 1 to May 15, the site will run Door Crasher tournaments, which won't be announced until a few minutes before they began, giving players little notice with which to register and sometimes limited seating that could fill quickly.

The low buy-in events might require $30 in cash, or simply one Gold Chip to enter. According to the site, the tournaments will take place between noon and 2 PM ET and again between 9 and 11 PM ET every day during the 15-day period. It's not known if there will only be one Door Crasher tournament going on at a time, or if several will take place concurrently.

Also check out our poker strategy directory for additional resources for poker strategy.

Though it's not known how many tournaments will be ongoing at a time, there will be only 10 minutes for players to be notified of the tournaments and to get entered and seated before the game begins.

Lee Jones, Cake Poker card room manager, said he was looking forward to the Door Crasher tournaments.

“We're tossing these tournaments up and only announcing them 10 minutes before they start,” Jones said. “It is literally first- come, first-served. It may be a 10-seat sit and go with a Gold Chip as a prize or the tournament may have a significant cash prize. You have to be there when they happen to find out.”

Like the other big poker sites, Cake Poker (www.cakepoker) is currently qualifying players for the World Series of Poker event, being held at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. Unlike many other sites, however, Cake Poker gives players cash prizes with which they can decide how to spend themselves at the WSOP. Cake Poker also does not require that its WSOP players wear Cake Poker attire when playing in WSOP games.
